Lifelong battle with mental illness + guns = self inflicted gun shot.

Who would have thunk?

He struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts his whole life — but his family still let him own guns? Good grief.

Matthew Warren wasn’t the only one with serious problems in that family. American gun culture is seriously in denial.

Thank God we live in a country where someone suffering a lifetime of mental illness has easy access to handguns. My suspicion is that the reason the NRA opposes background checks is they fear most of them would fail one.

Might he have gotten the gun without his family’s knowledge? If there was a description of where the gun came from, I missed it.

Good Lord, some of the comments on that CNN article!

I have no great love for pastor Rick, but I wish no one would have to go through this. Losing a child in any circumstance has to be almost unbearable and suicide makes it even harder. I wish them peace.

I do not think too highly of Rick Warren but losing a child to suicide has got to be horrible. My respect goes out to him and his family.

By the way, if Rick Warren was involved in the Uganda legislation, this is the first I’ve heard of it-he has apparently condemned it (although he has compared homosexuality to pedophilia.)
I’m not about to take him as a good example of how to treat my fellow human beings, but I don’t think this is fair.

Death by gun is rather appealing if you suffer suicidal ideation. It’s quick, it’s easy, it’s final and likely painless.

Well you’ve heard of it NOW towleroad.com

given what Rachel Maddow reports about Warren, I have no sympathy for him whatsoever

And he supported the genocidal law before he opposed it.
